Rogue nation, US?
Mon Apr 14, 2008 at 08:38:02 PM PDT
Are we a rogue nation? Paul Craig Roberts seems to have that impression, and I tend to agree with him. He has written a good article about it that I found first on the Information Clearinghouse blog, link here,
http://www.informationclearing...
entitled, "American Hegemony is not Guaranteed." That is a deceptively innocent title for what follows. Mr. Roberts is concerned that General Petraeus began to make noises about Iranian influence in Iraq concerning "special groups" and Iranian supplied weapons being used to kill Americans in Iraq, which could be used as justification for an attack on Iran, and responds with an excellent slap-down of such theories.
The Fading American Economy w/poll
Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 04:54:47 PM PDT
Original article, subtitled Government is the Largest Employer, by Paul Craig Roberts via Counterpunch.com.
Wothwhile reading if only for the statistics. But Roberts, as almost always recently, hits the nail on the head as far as where the economy actually stands.
Shame and sorrow

Instead of opening this diary by committing a few crimes against DKos (more on this later), I'll just go over a column that was just published earlier today. Lets start with the opening line:
In the administration of George W. Bush, the Republican Party has achieved the greatest combination of idiocy and evil in human history.
Strong words, to say the least. Let's see what this author is up to... if you dare jump over the fold.
What do you think (video diary)

A little video I made for a great song. There's only so much I can write about it, since it's pretty self explanatory. Let’s just say it is intended as an answer to Cheney’s flip-flopping. Credits to all the people I had to steal stuff from ;-)

Reaganite Says Impeach Now or Lose Constitution
Thu Aug 09, 2007 at 12:27:44 PM PDT
"Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran." -Former Reagan Assistant Secretary of the Treasury and "Father of Reaganomics" Paul Craig Roberts
"Something's in the works"
Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 10:38:47 AM PDT
I just heard a chilling interview on the Thom Hartmann show with former Reagan Republican Paul Craig Roberts.
Roberts is sounding the alarm about what he thinks is about to happen in this country, and it ain't good. His latest column on Counterpunch.org was described in this recommended diary a few days ago, where he warns of a dramatic "false flag" event designed to rally political support back to the Republican Party.
Roberts is no alarmist. His arguments are well-reasoned and supported. I am writing this diary so that his warnings are kept front and center.
The Bush administration desperately needs dramatic events to scare the American people and the Congress back in line with the militarist-police state that Bush and Cheney have fostered.
Tonkin Gulf II and the War With Iran
Thu Jul 19, 2007 at 10:19:54 AM PDT
Last Monday I published a diary noting that Paul Craig Roberts, a former Reagan Administration official, warned of a possible false flag attack by the Bush Administration: Reagan Republican Says: Impeach NOW!
Thom Hartmann just had Paul Craig Roberts on his Air America radio show and they discussed Robert's theory - and it was quite scary.
Roberts added some information about how ruthless Cheney actually is and how the contemplated false flag op might be mild compared to some other things that have already taken place. Hartmann, with his excellent knowledge of history, added a few frightening points of his own.
Another conservative voice has come out with a very similar theory. I know that some might object to reading this because bloggers have posted the article on forbidden sites or because the author implies that Israel has an effect on the US middle east policies, but once the PC has been cut through, the gist of the article is quite interesting.
The author is Pat Buchanan and the article is: Tonkin Gulf II and the Guns of August?
Reagan Republican Says: Impeach NOW!
Mon Jul 16, 2007 at 08:33:49 AM PDT
Paul Craig Roberts was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration. He is the author of "Supply-Side Revolution: An Insider's Account of Policymaking in Washington" and "Alienation and the Soviet Economy and Meltdown: Inside the Soviet Economy".
Roberts is not a liberal and he is not a Democrat. He is a voice from the other side with some real insight into how the other side operates.
What he says in his recent article about upcoming Bush and Cheney situation is truely chilling.

"Our goal: not to find a qualified and interested US worker"
Mon Jun 25, 2007 at 05:40:27 PM PDT
Paul Craig Roberts details the complete corporate contempt for the American worker in his excellent article Goodbye To The City Upon A Hill And To Its Fabled Economy. The former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury and leading economist foresees the "across the board" destruction of the United States and gives us a graphic account of the rape of this once great nation.
Steve Camarota at the Center for Immigration Studies reported on June 20 that state employment data show that in the first six years of the 21st century 218,000 high school graduates in the state of Georgia have been employment- displaced by immigrants. [ Employment Down Among Natives In Georgia]Moreover, wages have stagnated, putting the lie to the claim that there is a shortage of workers. If there were a labor shortage, wages would be bid up and rising.
Good point. If there are no Americans willing to do the work being taken by illegal immigrants, then why are wages stagnating? Could it be because the Corporate Overlords have decreed that American workers are to be denied jobs at every opportunity? Yes, says Roberts:
"Worse Than Hitler"?
Tue Jun 19, 2007 at 10:31:41 AM PDT
Appearing on this site with increasing frequency are diaries and comments equating George W. Bush, his administration, and neo-cons, with Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, and Josef Stalin's USSR. Some have lately taken to quoting a remark attributed to the dubious Paul Craig Roberts, apparently uttered on the talk show of 9/11 "Truther" and Mel Gibson apologist Alex Jones, to the effect that Bushoid neo-cons are actually "worse" and "more evil" than Hitler and Stalin.
This week I finished one book that referenced Nazi Germany, and another that referenced Stalin's Russia. I will quote here a bit from each, in an attempt to provide a reminder of the reality that lies behind the words "Hitler" and "Stalin." The reader can then decide whether George W. Bush, his administration, and/or neo-cons, bad as they are, can reasonably be said to be "worse" or "more evil" than the persons and policies of Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin.
Bush should be tried as a war criminal after impeachment says former Reagan official
Sun Jun 17, 2007 at 11:06:37 AM PDT
Prominent Conservative Leader says Government in Hands of Psychopaths
Paul Craig Roberts said that the US government is in the hands of dangerous psychopaths who are a disgrace to the human race and who should be arrested as war criminals and turned over the the Hague.

Former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal and former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury Dr. Paul Craig Roberts expressed his dire warning that the US government has fallen into the hands of Neo-Con psychopaths.
Roberts went further than he has ever gone before in stating that the Neo-Cons were worse than Hitler and Stalin because they publicly embrace torture and pre-emptive war, something that past despots at least tried to hide.

A Rising Tide of Defections... but in time?
Wed Jun 13, 2007 at 10:26:19 PM PDT
In Monday’s news: Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that he would not seek the traditional second term for the military Joint Chiefs Chairman , Marine Gen. Peter Pace, or Adm. Edmund Giambastani. Ostensibly, this measure was taken in order to avoid the prospect of bitter reconfirmation hearings, this summer, but it completes a near clean sweep of high slots that had been purged and filled with men simpatico with the previous Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld.
.
More on this, and Secretary Gates as a possible "anti-Manchurian". Plus comments on Paul Craig Roberts... and more.

Who is responsible?
Fri Mar 02, 2007 at 08:36:36 AM PDT
In an article today in Counterpunch The Tragedy of a Dozen Evil Men
Paul Craig Roberts says these few have triumphed over American democracy: Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Lewis Libby, Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, Elliott Abrams, Zalmay Khalilzad, John Bolton, Philip Zelikow, and Attorney General Gonzales. They are "the main operatives who have controlled policy." In a probable oversight, Bush is not on list even though Roberts refers several times to "the Bush-Cheney regime."
Roberts also blames the "media shills" at the Weekly Standard, National Review, Fox News, New York Times, CNN, the Wall Street Journal editorial page, and think tanks such as the American Enterprise Institute. As the former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan, and one who has worked for the Wall Street Journal and National Review, Roberts knows more than most about these people and institutions.
Iran Attack Imminent
Sun Jan 28, 2007 at 08:44:11 AM PDT
Here's the Reaganite, Roberts, claiming the machinery for the attack on Iran is moving full speed ahead. I happen to agree with him.
Long-time conservative calls for impeachment
Mon Jan 22, 2007 at 07:09:02 PM PDT
Haven't seen this elsewhere, and I think it's worth noting.
Paul Craig Roberts has some solid conservative credentials: he was an assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan, an associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, the author of The Supply Side Revolution, and was a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institute (I wonder if he knows Dinesh?)
...and he's jumping off the ship, big time.
On How Iran Is NOT The Greatest Sponser Of Terror In The World
Sat Jan 13, 2007 at 02:50:42 PM PDT
"[Iran and Syria] are allowing terrorists and insurgents to use their territory to move in and out of Iraq. Iran is providing material support for attacks on American troops."
-- George W. Bush, Wednesday January 10th 2007.
Oh crap.
Bush may have no political capital left, but it's not like he cares. I urge you to not feed growing monsters and to join me on the flip:
Can We Call It Genocide Now?
Fri Oct 13, 2006 at 11:51:48 AM PDT
"You're Either With Us or You're Dead"
Can We Call It Genocide Now?
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
When does "collateral damage" so dwarf combatant deaths that war becomes genocide?
Bush's illegal invasion of Iraq has cost 655,000 Iraqis their lives.
That is the conclusion of a study financed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for International Studies and conducted by physicians under the direction of Johns Hopkins University epidemiologists. These are deaths over and above the pre-invasion mortality rate. Bush's illegal invasion raised Iraq's mortality rate from 5.5 deaths per 1,000 people per year to 13.3 deaths per 1,000 people per year. The study is published by the distinguished British medical journal, The Lancet, and is available on the journal's online site (October 11).
